Emma Cowan and Sarah Nicholson.

In this hands on workshop from Wild Studio, you will be inspired by the possibilities for making your own art materials, and come away with tools and inks you have made yourself and the knowledge to continue further explorations and experiments. You will be welcomed to our lovely vintage workshop space – The Kauaeranga Valley Hall, with morning tea and home made treats.

We will explain our philosophy of Natural Art making – and talk about local possibilities for foraging and creating. You will be guided through the process to make your own rich black inks for drawing and lettering, and learn the different ways that these inks can be used. With foraged materials, we will craft simple and effective dip pens, that can be styled to suit many nib types for script or line drawings.

After lunch we will dive into the world of botanical colour. We will share with you our research into the possibilities for extracting beautiful vibrant hues from common plants and weeds, and take you through the process from start to finish, so that you’ll make your own inks to take home.

This is a practical workshop suitable for all levels of experience. Age 12+
