Join Morgan as he discusses the 4th Thames Home Guard Battalion which had responsibility for defending the 125 miles of coastline around the Firth of Thames and the Coromandel Peninsula. The unit did so from 1941 through to 1943 working in co-operation with other local Home Guard units such as the No 3 Hauraki Independent Mounted Rifles. The 4th Thames Home Guard Battalion was formed on the 4/3/1941, its first company totalling130 enrolments, by the beginning of May the Roll of the Battalion had reached 738 men.

Morgan Lewis was brought up in Thames and attended the Central School, and Thames High School. Under the influence of the Central School headmaster (I.T. Grant) developed a yen for history. When he finished High school he joined the NZ regular army and saw service in Malaysia. After leaving the army in 1971 and work in Telecoms as a technician for 25 years. On retirement returned to live Thames, became a volunteer at the Thames Museum.
He was the President of the Museum for 3 years, and during his tenure the Thames Museum participated in the Heritage Rescue T.V. series and along with the successful displays for the 150th anniversary of the Proclamation Thames Goldfields, the 150th anniversary of the A & G Prices Foundry and the 150th anniversary of the founding of the Thames Hospital. Morgan is currently helping out in the Treasury and writing a book.
